General Manager, Japan (Country Manager)

Our client is a leading global medical device company seeking an experienced and commercially driven General Manager, Japan to lead its Japan business. This is a senior executive role with full P&L responsibility, accountability for strategic growth, and oversight of all commercial and operational functions in Japan.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in shaping market strategy, driving sustainable revenue growth, and strengthening the company’s presence in one of its most important global markets.

Key Responsibilities

• Full P&L ownership for the Japan business, including revenue growth, profitability, budgeting, and forecasting

• Develop and execute the Japan market strategy aligned with regional and global objectives

• Lead and develop cross-functional teams across Sales, Marketing, Operations, Regulatory, Quality, and Support functions

• Drive commercial excellence, including pricing strategy, channel management, and key customer relationships

• Build and maintain strong relationships with key opinion leaders, distributors, hospital systems, and strategic partners

• Ensure full compliance with Japanese regulatory, quality, and ethical standards

• Represent Japan in regional and global leadership forums; provide clear, data-driven reporting to regional leadership and HQ

• Identify and execute growth opportunities, including new product launches, market expansion, and strategic initiatives

• Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration, and talent development

Qualifications & Experience

• Proven senior leadership experience in the medical device or healthcare industry in Japan

• Demonstrated track record of P&L management and driving profitable growth

• Strong understanding of the Japanese healthcare market, reimbursement environment, and regulatory landscape

• Experience managing complex organizations and leading senior teams

• Ability to operate effectively in a matrixed, global organization

• Excellent strategic thinking, commercial acumen, and execution capability

• Strong communication skills in Japanese and English (business-level fluency required)
